Like say, when\u00a0you have\u00a0a juicy bit of news that will hit in your next print edition. What do you do? You do what EW did, release it on your website <\/a>days before the issue hits stands.<\/p>\n

The magazine interviewed Shailine Woodley in conjunction with her latest film, Divergent<\/strong>, when the actress dropped a bombshell about her involvement in Amazing Spider-Man 2–<\/strong>there not going to be one. Mary Jane has been cut from the film.<\/p>\n

Here is the pertinent part of the interview. Relax, MJ fans, it looks like she’s only taking one film off:<\/p>\n

Of course I\u2019m bummed. But I am a firm believer in everything happening for a specific reason. MJ only appeared in a few scenes and I wouldn\u2019t trade the experience of working with Andrew and Emma for three days on set for the world. Based on the proposed plot, I completely understand the need for holding off on introducing MJ until the next film.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

It appears that MJ would fill a similar role that Bryce Dallas Howard’s Gwen Stacy played in Spider-Man 3, <\/strong>a brief introduction with the potential for a larger role in future films. It seems like they are simply doing away with the “brief introduction”\u00a0part and hopefully going with the larger role in the already scheduled Amazing Spider-Man 3<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Of course, we did mention yesterday<\/a> that if Felicity Jones is playing the Black Cat, Peter Parker’s love life was getting quite crowded. I don’t know what this news says about Jones playing the Black Cat. For one, it clears up the field a bit. But would you really replace Mary Jane with the Black Cat for Gwen’s competition?<\/p>\n
