Although it is fairly obvious that production on Guardians Of The Galaxy<\/strong> has been underway considering that footage was shown<\/a> last weekend at San Diego Comic Con, Marvel Studios has issued a press release announcing the fact.<\/p>\n

The release pretty much confirms all of the casting stories that had been circulating over the last few months including Lee Pace as Ronan the Accuser, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Djimon Hounsou as Korath, Benicio del Toro as The Collector and lenn Close as the head of the Nova Corps, Nova Prime. What it doesn’t reveal is who may be supplying the voices of Guardians members Rocket Raccoon and the alien Groot and how may be playing the cosmic villain Thanos, who Marvel Studio chief Kevin Feige admitted<\/a> would be appearing in the film.<\/p>\n

BURBANK, CALIF. (July 23, 2013) \u2013 \u201cGuardians of the Galaxy,\u201d the next epic adventure from Marvel Studios has started shooting at the UK\u2019s Shepperton Studios. Directed by James Gunn (\u201cSlither,\u201d\u201cSuper\u201d) from his screenplay, with a story by Nicole Perlman and Gunn, the film will introduce audiences to a whole new side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The all-star cast includes Chris Pratt (\u201cZero Dark Thirty\u201d, \u201cMoneyball\u201d) as Peter Quill aka Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana (\u201cStar Trek Into Darkness\u201d, \u201cAvatar\u201d) as Gamora, Dave Bautista (\u201cRiddick\u201d) as Drax the Destroyer, Lee Pace (\u201cThe Hobbit,\u201d \u201cLincoln\u201d) as Ronan the Accuser, Michael Rooker (AMC\u2019s \u201cThe Walking Dead\u201d) as Yondu, Karen Gillan (BBC TV\u2019s \u201cDoctor Who\u201d) as Nebula, two-time Academy Award\u00ae nominee Djimon Hounsou (\u201cAmistad\u201d, \u201cGladiator\u201d) as Korath, with Academy Award\u00ae winner Benicio del Toro (\u201cTraffic\u201d) as The Collector, Academy Award\u00ae nominee John C. Reilly (\u201cChicago\u201d) as Rhomann Dey, and six-time Academy Award\u00ae nominee Glenn Close (\u201cAlbert Nobbs,\u201d \u201cFatal Attraction\u201d) as Nova Prime. Marvel\u2019s \u201cGuardians of the Galaxy\u201d is slated for an August 1, 2014 release in the U.S.<\/p>\n

Marvel Studios\u2019 President Kevin Feige is producing the film. The executive producers are Louis D\u2019Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Jeremy Latcham, Alan Fine and Stan Lee; the co-producer is Nik Korda.<\/p>\n

The creative team includes director of photography Ben Davis, BSC (\u201cWrath of the Titans\u201d, \u201cKick-Ass\u201d), production designer Charles Wood (\u201cThor: The Dark World\u201d), BAFTA-nominated Editor Fred Raskin (\u201cDjango Unchained,\u201d \u201cFast Five\u201d) and Academy Award\u00ae-winning editor Hughes Winborne, A.C.E. (\u201cThe Help,\u201d \u201cCrash\u201d), and Academy Award\u00ae winning costume designer Alexandra Byrne (\u201cMarvel\u2019s The Avengers,\u201d \u201cElizabeth The Golden Age\u201d). The film will also shoot at Longcross Studios, and locations in and around London.<\/p>\n

Marvel Studios\u2019 last two releases were \u201cMarvel\u2019s The Avengers\u201d and \u201cIron Man 3,\u201d which are the #3 and #5 highest grossing films of all time and the two highest-grossing films ever released by the Walt Disney Company. The two films are the #1 and #2 all-time domestic 3-day weekend box office record holders at $207.4 million and $174.1 million respectively.
