With casting currently underway and all manner of pre-production in process, the Star Wars: Episode VII<\/strong> rumors are going to be increasing in number and often dubious nature for a time. Case in point, this weekend’s report of two possible subtitles for the next installment of the franchise – Return Of The Sith<\/strong> and Rise Of The Jedi<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The titles come via Latino Review<\/a>, so appropriate cautions about veracity are already in play here, who also report that these were titles that Lacs had come up with when he was working out the broad strokes for this new trilogy prior to selling the whole Star Wars<\/strong> empire to Disney. Latino Review gives themselves plenty of outs in the form of calling these “working titles” and stating that “there is no guarantee whatsoever that Disney will use these titles for the movie.”<\/p>\n

So at this point, kind of a non-story, but one that is making the rounds nevertheless. At best, this might turn out to be a of small historical note in the overall history of the development of the new trilogy.<\/p>\n

As titles, they do sort of fit the X Of The Y<\/strong> Star Wars<\/strong> mold that half of the films have used, but that just means that there is only a 50% chance of that structure being used for Episode VII<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

And honestly, both of these titles are not that great. In fact, they’re pretty lousy and seem a bit obvious and on the nose as to what fans are expecting to happen in the new films.<\/p>\n

It also bears remembering that it wasn’t until just over a year from when filming had wrapped on Episode I<\/strong> that its subtitle of The Phantom Menace<\/strong> was announced. With Lucas no longer in charge of things I don’t think we will necessarily see them sticking to quite the same time table with this new trilogy, but I also don’t expect to hear real news on what Lucasfilm and J J Abrams are planning on subtitling this new film any time in the near future.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
