While all eyes seem to be fixed on the new Star Wars<\/strong> trilogy of films that Disney\/Lucasfilm are currently scrambling to get into production, my interest has been actually more focused on the standalone Star Wars<\/strong> films that will be released in the years between new trilogy installments. We know that these films will be “origin stories”<\/a> of such characters as Jedi Master Yoda<\/a>, Han Solo and bounty hunter Boba Fett<\/a>. It has also been reported that writers Lawrence Kasdan and Simon Kinberg were linked to these films, though there was no word as to which writer was working on which project.<\/p>\n

Now comes word, which I may caution that we should take with a grain of salt, that Kasdan is the one who is penning the Boba Fett solo film. Director Jon Schnepp, who has both some television animation (Metalocalypse, The Venture Bros.) and film (The “W is for WTF?” segment of The ABCs Of Death<\/strong> and the upcoming, Kickstarter funded documentary The Death of “Superman Lives”: What Happened?<\/strong>, was on AMC’s vidcast AMC Movie Talk<\/em> where he made the claim –<\/p>\n

One of [the Star Wars spin-off movies] is Boba Fett. It is. I know. I know for a fact. I will never reveal my source, but it is the one written by Lawrence Kasdan.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

That this is Kasdan’s Star Wars<\/strong> project comes as not much of a surprise. He was a co-writer on The Empire Strikes Back<\/strong>, which introduced the live-action version of the character, and shares a screenwriting credit with George Lucas on Return Of The Jedi<\/strong>. He has also been working with J J Abrams on reevamping the first screenplay of the new trilogy. If there is anyone out there who understands how cinematic Star Wars<\/strong> works, it is Kasdan.<\/p>\n

So who could possibly direct this film? Captain America<\/strong> director Joe Johnston, who designed Boba Fett\u2019s armor back when he was a special effects artist at Lucasfilm, has stated that he would love to direct a Boba Fett film, though that was way back in the summer of 2011.<\/p>\n

Of course, the other question raised if this report turns out to be true, is what project is Kinberg working on. That is if he is still attached to do anything in the Star Wars<\/strong> universe. Kinberg was recently hired<\/a> on by Twentieth Century Fox to oversee both their Fantastic Four<\/strong> and X-Men<\/strong> superhero franchises so if he hasn’t already turned in his work for a Star Wars<\/strong> film he may not have the time now to also tell stories in a galaxy far away.<\/p>\n
