A dark comedy political scandal, a harrowing tale of slavery and a story of survival in the harshest of environments lead the pack of nominations for the 2014 Academy Awards. Awards season heavyweight American Hustle<\/strong> and Alfonso Cauron’s Gravity<\/strong> received nominations in 10 Oscar categories this morning, while director Steve McQueen’s 12 Years A Slave<\/strong> received nine.<\/p>\n

American Hustle<\/strong> and 12 Years A Slave<\/strong> look to be shaping into the biggest rivalry and will be going head to head in the Best Costume Design, Film Editing, Production Design, Supporting Actor, Supporting Actress, Actor, Director and Picture categories.<\/p>\n

In addition to a number of technical category nominations, Gravity<\/strong> netted nominations in the Best Visual Effects, Cinematography, Actress (Sandra Bullock), Director and Picture. <\/p>\n

Captain Phillips<\/strong>, Nebraska<\/strong> and Dallas Buyers Club<\/strong> all received 6 nominations each. Martin Scorsese’s critically lauded The Wolf Of Wall Street only received five categories, but they were for Best Adapted Screenplay, Supporting Actor, Actor (Leonardo DiCaprio), Director and Picture.<\/p>\n
