Murakami also directed the opening segment of 1981&#8217;s <strong>Heavy Metal<\/strong> titled &#8220;Soft Landing.&#8221; Murakami served as the supervising director on two adaptations of Raymond Brigg&#8217;s children&#8217;s books <strong>When The Wind Blows<\/strong> and <strong>The Snowman<\/strong>, the latter of which was nominated for an Academy Award for Animated Short Film in 1982.<\/p>\n<p>Murakami had an association with Roger Corman, which started when he worked as an associate producer on the low budget director\/producer&#8217;s film <strong>Von Richtofen And Brown<\/strong>. Murakami later worked at Corman&#8217;s New World Pictures, first directing uncredited some additional material for <strong>Humanoids Of The Deep<\/strong> before helming <strong>Battle Beyond The Stars<\/strong>, which reset <strong>The Seven Samurai<\/strong>\/<strong>The Magnificent Seven<\/strong> into a science-fiction setting.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\">The director of Roger Corman&#8217;s BATTLE BEYOND THE STARS has died.<\/div>\n<p> <a class=\"mh-excerpt-more\" href=\"https:\/\/www.filmbuffonline.com\/FBOLNewsreel\/wordpress\/2014\/02\/17\/director-jimmy-t-murakami-80\/\" title=\"Director Jimmy T.
