Replacement director made the unofficial announcement about the commencement of shooting with the following tweet (which also manages to reference a classic Steve Martin standup routine) &#8211;<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Alright, gang. You&#8217;ll notice one name familiar to the Marvel Cinematic Universe &#8211; John Slattery. If you remember <strong>Iron Man 2<\/strong> you probably remember Slattery&#8217;s appearance in old film footage as Tony Stark&#8217;s father Howard. (Howard Stark has also shown up in the first <strong>Captain America<\/strong> film, but as he is 30 years younger in the World War Two-set adventure, Dominic Cooper played the part.)<\/p>\n<p>Slattery&#8217;s appearance apparently confirms the rumors that the film&#8217;s prologue will be set in the past, showing scientist Hank Pym (being played in the present by MMichael Douglas) working with SHIELD in the development of his shrinking technology that is the source of the titular hero&#8217;s powers.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA (August, 18, 2014) \u2013 Marvel Studios began principal photography today in San Francisco, California, on its newest Super Hero franchise Marvel\u2019s \u201cAnt-Man.\u201d The film brings one of Marvel comics\u2019 original founding members of The Avengers into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The production also shoots on location in Atlanta, Georgia, which serves as the base for the film\u2019s production.<\/p>\n<p>Set for release in the United States on July 17, 2015, the film is directed by Peyton Reed (\u201cBring it On,\u201d \u201cThe Break-Up\u201d) and stars Paul Rudd (\u201cI Love You Man,\u201d \u201cRole Models\u201d) as Scott Lang aka Ant-Man, and Michael Douglas (\u201cBehind The Candelabra,\u201d \u201cWall Street\u201d) as his mentor Dr. Hank Pym and Evangeline Lilly (\u201cThe Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug,\u201d \u201cLost\u201d) as Hope Van Dyne, daughter of Hank Pym.<\/p>\n<p>The film also includes outstanding additional cast including Corey Stoll (\u201cHouse of Cards,\u201d \u201cThe Bourne Legacy\u201d), Bobby Cannavale (\u201cDanny Collins,\u201d \u201cAnnie,\u201d \u201cHBO\u2019s \u201cThe Long Play\u201d), Michael Pe\u00f1a (\u201cEnd of Watch,\u201d \u201cAmerican Hustle\u201d), Abby Ryder Fortson (\u201cTogetherness\u201d), Judy Greer (\u201c13 Going on 30,\u201d \u201cDawn of the Planet of the Apes\u201d), David Dastmalchian (\u201cThe Dark Knight,\u201d \u201cPrisoners\u201d), Wood Harris (\u201cRemember the Titans,\u201d \u201cThe Wire\u201d), John Slattery (\u201cMad Men,\u201d Marvel\u2019s \u201cIron Man 2\u201d) and Gregg Turkington (\u201cThe Comedy,\u201d \u201cOn Cinema\u201d) and multi-hyphenate T.I. (\u201cAmerican Gangster,\u201d \u201cTakers\u201d).<\/p>\n<p>Based on the Marvel comic character first published in 1962, Marvel\u2019s \u201cAnt-Man\u201d continues the lineage of epic big-screen adventures chronicled in Marvel\u2019s \u201cIron Man,\u201d \u201cThe Incredible Hulk,\u201d \u201cIron Man 2,\u201d \u201cThor,\u201d \u201cCaptain America: The First Avenger,\u201d \u201cMarvel\u2019s The Avengers,\u201d \u201cIron Man 3,\u201d \u201cThor: The Dark World,\u201d \u201cCaptain America: The Winter Soldier,\u201d \u201cGuardians of the Galaxy\u201d and the upcoming Marvel\u2019s \u201cAvengers: Age of Ultron.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, con-man Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats.
