After the initial film from Ruben Fleischer was a surprise hit in 2009, the studio took some time to try and launch a sequel, which wound up transforming itself into one of the pilots that Amazon offered in their first wave of potential series that the content provider would produce based on audience votes. It turns out that those who saw the pilot weren&#8217;t impressed and Sony found itself back to square one in trying to figure out how to continue what could be a franchise for them.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/deadline.com\/2014\/09\/zombieland-2-gets-writer-and-urgency-843881\/\" target=\"_blank\">Deadline<\/a> is reporting that the studio is now taking another run at a theatrical sequel, hiring writer Dave Callaham to work up a screenplay under Fleischer&#8217;s supervision. Previously Callaham has a story credit on this past summer&#8217;s <strong>Godzilla<\/strong> and has been doing script duties on <strong>The Expendables<\/strong> franchise.<\/p>\n<p>It should be noted that as of yet, Sony does not have a deal in place with Fleischer, nor are any of the leads from the original film are attached to come back. Given that stars Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone and Woody Harrelson are all pretty much in demand, the studio may have some troubles luring them back for a second go round.
