But right before they set out of their offices for the long weekend, the brass at Twentieth Century Fox gave the go ahead for the long in development <strong>Independence Day 2<\/strong> to go into production in the spring.<\/p>\n<p>Director Roland Emmerich will be returning, though <a href=\"http:\/\/deadline.com\/2014\/11\/independence-day-sequel-fox-green-light-1201298276\/\" target=\"_blank\">Deadline<\/a> is reporting that his deal has not been finalized with the studio. However, as we learned <a href=\"http:\/\/www.filmbuffonline.com\/FBOLNewsreel\/wordpress\/2014\/02\/08\/will-smith-independence-day-sequel-2\/\" target=\"_blank\">earlier in the year<\/a>, the original film&#8217;s star Will Smith will definitely not be returning for the sequel. Once Emmerich&#8217;s deal is signed casting on the film will begin.<\/p>\n<p>Although at one point Emmerich&#8217;s plan was to shoot a <strong>Part 2<\/strong> and <strong>Part 3<\/strong> back-to-back, but the studio has only given the go ahead for one film.
