It was 30 years ago today that we joined six Chicago suburb high school students for Saturday detention, or as it is know The Breakfast Club<\/strong>. John Hughes’ film about teenagers learning to see beyond the simplest, most convenient definitions that people, or indeed themselves, put them into is considered not only one of the most emblematic movies of the 1980s, but one that transcends the decade, speaking to generations of teenagers ever since. And as the lyrics from David Bowie’s song “Changes” presage at the opening of the film, we know that by the end of the film they won’t be seeing themselves as just a brain, a basket case, a princess etcetera, but we could start breaking out of the classifications we found ourselves in.<\/p>\n

And while it has enjoyed a long and popular life on video, the film will be returning to its big screen roots for two days next month to celebrate its three decades on March 26th and 31st courtesy of Fathom Events<\/a>. In addition to the film, there will be a 15-minute retrospective featuring cast members Judd Nelson, Ally Sheedy, Anthony Michael Hall and John Kapelos.<\/p>\n
