{"id":35780,"date":"2015-04-15T20:07:41","date_gmt":"2015-04-16T00:07:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.filmbuffonline.com\/FBOLNewsreel\/wordpress\/?p=35780"},"modified":"2015-04-15T20:07:41","modified_gmt":"2015-04-16T00:07:41","slug":"fox-interested-in-matthew-vaughn-directing-flash-gordon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.filmbuffonline.com\/FBOLNewsreel\/wordpress\/2015\/04\/15\/fox-interested-in-matthew-vaughn-directing-flash-gordon\/","title":{"rendered":"Fox Interested In Matthew Vaughn Directing FLASH GORDON"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.filmbuffonline.com\/FBOLNewsreel\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/matthew-vaughn-lexicon.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-22940 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/www.filmbuffonline.com\/FBOLNewsreel\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/matthew-vaughn-lexicon-205x300.jpg\" alt=\"matthew-vaughn-lexicon\" width=\"205\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a>Twentieth Century Fox is looking to have Matthew Vaughn helm their in-development adaptation of the classic comic strip hero Flash Gordon.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/heat-vision\/matthew-vaughn-talks-direct-flash-788921\" target=\"_blank\">Hollywood Reporter<\/a> is stating that the studio is hoping that the <strong>Kingsman: The Secret Service<\/strong> director will take the reins of the film being developed by producers John Davis (<strong>Predator<\/strong>) and George Nolfi (<strong>The Adjustment Bureau<\/strong>) and writers J D Payne and Patrick McKay (<strong>Star Trek 3<\/strong>).<\/p>\n<p>If Vaughn signs on, this would make the fifth comics-based property in a row for the director, starting with 2007\u2019s Stardust and continuing through 2010\u2019s <strong>Kick-Ass<\/strong>, <strong>X-Men: First Class<\/strong> (2011) and <strong>Kingsman<\/strong>. With <strong>Kingsman<\/strong> being a surprise hit for the director, making $392 million worldwide off a lean budget of $82 million, it is not surprising that studios are eyeing him to direct a number of projects that they want to get up on the big screen.<\/p>\n<p>As I have enjoyed Vaughn\u2019s work to varying degrees so far, I want to be cautiously optimistic at this news. But I am a big fan of the 1980 version of <strong>Flash Gordon<\/strong> directed by Mike Hodges. The film is probably best remembered for its throwback campy tone, a vibe similar to what Vaughn achieved with <strong>Kingsman<\/strong>. Hopefully, Fox isn\u2019t looking to Vaughn to replicate that tone in the new film. What Hodges did was capture lightening in a bottle, and we know how hard it is to try and recreate a previous film\u2019s tone.
