While I may have had some issues with 2010’s Tron: Legacy<\/strong>, one of the things that intrigued me was its ending, which featured a program from the virtual world inside a computer system making her way to the physical world we know and inhabit. It hinted at some interesting story possibilities to come for a potential sequel, though for a while it seemed as if that sequel might never come.<\/p>\n

But with the news that a third Tron<\/strong> film will begin filming later this fall, it looks as if that story potential will finally be realized. And that was confirmed by Tron: Legacy co-star Olivia Wilde.<\/p>\n

Speaking with Collider<\/a> at the Tribeca Film Festival, Wilde stated that she has read a script for the film and that it will pick up her character Quorra entering and exploring the world outside of the computer world she came from.<\/p>\n

I love this character of Quorra so much and I\u2019ve built her with Joe Kosinski and we took her such a long way from what was written to what we made. I mean, I fought for her to be this kind of androgynous child and that\u2019s so not what you typically see in these movies, so I\u2019m so grateful that the producers let me play with her and make her this strange little being. And I\u2019m really excited to see what happens to that character when put into the real world. I think it\u2019s an interesting concept. I\u2019m fascinated by all discussions of AI, and especially now today and now with virtual reality becoming something that\u2019s like a personal device, I think it\u2019s the time to tell this story.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Wilde also explained that the delay in getting the threequel into production was entirely due to making sure that the story they would be telling was the way that they wanted it.<\/p>\n

The delay has only ever been story, finding the right story. It hasn\u2019t been anything else. There\u2019s never been a time where we wanted to go and then schedules got in the way. It\u2019s only been like, \u2018That\u2019s not the right story.\u2019 So, in the past year, the right story kind of came together and we felt, \u2018Oh, this actually \u2013 this might be the right one to tell.\u2019 And, you know, there\u2019s still a lot to be done before it could actually happen, but the fact that there\u2019s a goal of this year to start is really exciting.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Meanwhile, Disney has yet to officially confirm that Tron 3<\/strong> is going forward.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
