\"Comic-Con-Logo\"<\/a>Another San Diego Comic Con is upon us, and that means a whole bunch of things to interest the FilmBuff will be presented for our approval. Here is a listing of just about every film-related panel or presentation from this years convention. The list was constructed in part with the help of Entertainment Weekly<\/a>, the panel descriptions were taken from the SDCC site itself<\/a>, and it was all compiled by me for you. Without any further ado, let’s begin listing!<\/p>\n

THURSDAY, JULY 9<\/strong><\/h3>\n

\"hunger<\/a>Lionsgate pretty much has the day to itself, with its panel promoting its final Hunger Games <\/strong>installment at noon. But there will be plenty of panels for you to attend if you are not down with Katniss, including panels celebrating Industrial Light & Magic’s 40th and Back to the Future<\/a><\/strong>‘s 30th <\/a>Anniversaries<\/em><\/p>\n

10 a.m. PT:\u00a0<\/u><\/strong> Comic-Con Film School 101: Preproduction and Screenwriting (Grand Ballroom D):<\/strong><\/u> Comic-Con Film School is back for another four-day, nuts and bolts class on how to make a movie for very little money using available video technology and desktop postproduction software. Whether you’re shooting your first Doctor Who fan film or that story about the leather-clad girl who hunts vampire-werewolf hybrids, this course will take you from script to final product so that you too can enter your own movie into the CCI-IFF. This first class covers the specifics of preproduction on the cheap, including screenwriting, scheduling, location scouting, crewing-up, and getting equipment for nothing. \n10:15 a.m.:\u00a0<\/u><\/strong> Studio Production Chiefs Speak (Room 6DE):<\/u><\/strong> Fans love to debate and dissect exactly what Hollywood is doing right and wrong. Now, for the first time at Comic-Con, top production executives from major Hollywood studios will reveal the frank realities of their jobs and why they make the decisions they do. 20th Century Fox senior vice president Daria Cercek<\/strong> (X-Men<\/em>, Spy<\/em>), Warner Bros. senior vice president Drew Crevello<\/strong> (Dungeons & Dragons<\/em>, Akira<\/em>), and Lionsgate executive vice president Jim Miller<\/strong> (The Hunger Games<\/em>, Power Rangers<\/em>) will discuss the development process, how they choose intellectual property to adapt, how movies get green lit, how filmmakers and actors are selected, what mistakes can lead to bad movies, how they balance originality vs. faithfulness to source material, and how much they care about the opinions of fans. Rather than merely previewing upcoming releases, you will get insights into how Hollywood really works on this panel moderated by Wall Street Journal<\/em> film industry reporter Ben Fritz<\/strong>.
\n10:45 a.m.:\u00a0<\/u><\/strong> Open Road (Hall H)<\/u><\/strong>: The studio is being mum about this presentation as of press time. While they have done genre films in the past (Machete Kills, The Host<\/strong>), the only two forthcoming films they have on the docket are the Bill Murray comedy Rock the Casbah<\/strong>. and Oliver Stone\u2019s Snowden <\/strong>biopic. Neither seems to be SDCC friendly. Expect surprises.
\n11 a.m.:\u00a0<\/u><\/strong> The Super Story Behind the Pixar Short Sanjay\u2019s Super Team (Indigo Ballroom):<\/strong><\/u> Director Sanjay Patel and producer Nicole Grindle present a peek behind the curtains at Pixar Animation Studio’s latest short, Sanjay’s Super Team.<\/em> The filmmakers will discuss the production process as well as the unique inspiration for this incredibly personal film that features superheroes like you’ve never seen them before.
\n12 p.m.:\u00a0<\/u><\/strong> Voice Over Celebration with Beloved Cartoon, Video Game, and Film VO Actors (Indigo Ballroom): <\/strong><\/u>From zero to sixty, a voice actor must convey a plethora of emotions, often impromptu. You will get an in-depth look into how voice actors approach the art, beauty, and challenges of performing on the spot. Susan Eisenberg, Rob Paulsen, Caitlin Glass,<\/strong> Anthony Bowling, Tara Platt<\/strong>, and Yuri Lowenthal<\/strong> from beloved titles including Wonder Woman<\/em>, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles<\/em>, Diablo, Pinky and the Brain<\/em>, League of Legends, Full Metal Alchemist,<\/em> Call of Duty, Samurai 7, Attack on Titan, The Devil is a Part Timer,<\/em> Final Fantasy, and Resident Evil discuss this pivotal topic, led by Genese Davis<\/strong> (The Holder’s Dominion<\/em>, MMORPG).
\n12 p.m.:\u00a0<\/u><\/strong> Lionsgate (Hall H):<\/u><\/strong> Lionsgate, a premier next generation global content leader, will give Comic-Con\u00ae 2015 attendees two exclusive looks at the studio\u2019s most anticipated fall film releases, \u201cThe Hunger Games: Mockingjay \u2013 Part 2\u201d and \u201cThe Last Witch Hunter,\u201d during a panel that will feature Q&As with the stars and filmmakers of both movies to be moderated by Emmy\u00ae Award-winning comedian and talk show host Conan O\u2019Brien.
\n12:30 p.m.:\u00a0<\/u><\/strong> Roddenberry Entertainment Presents (Room 24ABC):<\/u><\/strong> Eugene Roddenberry<\/strong> (CEO Roddenberry Entertainment, son of Star Trek<\/em> creator Gene Roddenberry), Trevor Roth<\/strong> (COO\/head of development, Roddenberry Entertainment) and Tory Mell<\/strong> (producer, Roddenberry Entertainment) discuss the groundbreaking new app for their film White Room: 02B3.<\/em> They will also be talking about the 50th Anniversary of Star Trek<\/em> and premiering their new short film Instant<\/em>, along with special guests Tony Janning<\/strong> (actor, White Room: 02B3, Instant, Legend of Neil<\/em>) and Alex Albrecht<\/strong> (director, Instant<\/em>).<\/em> A surprise guest will be giving away a traditional iPad.

Their work is featured in films including Pacific Rim, Avengers: Age Of Ultron, Jurassic World<\/em> and Terminator: Genisys<\/em>. Meet the studio founders and get a firsthand look into the making of these blockbuster films. You may even get a sneak peek at some of the actual props from the films. Engage in an exciting presentation, Q&A, and maybe even a couple of giveaways.
\n3:30 p.m.:\u00a0 Animated Effects in Live Action (Room 26AB): When the word animation<\/em> is used, we think of cartoons. However, the line between live action and animation is becoming blurred due to technological advances. Industry professionals who create some of the most memorable animated visual effects will have a lively discussion on how they blend animation with live action seamlessly. They include David Derks<\/strong> (ASIFA Hollywood), and Adam Howard<\/strong> (Birdman, Pee Wee’s Big Holiday<\/em>).
\n4:15 p.m.:\u00a0<\/u><\/strong> Hollywood Location Scouts (Grand Ballroom D):<\/u><\/strong> Working closely with the director and production designer, location scouts are the artists who translate the script into reality by exploring the world to figure out exactly where the movies and TV shows should be made. Six location scouts will discuss the creative and logistical aspects of their jobs, relate some exciting anecdotes, and answer audience questions. ModeratorScott Trimbl<\/strong>e (Terminator: Genisys<\/em>, Jurassic World<\/em>) joins panelists Nick Carr<\/strong> (Spider-Man 3<\/em>, Enchanted<\/em>), Stephenson Crossley<\/strong> (Fear the Walking Dead<\/em>, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen<\/em>), Stacey McGillis<\/strong> (Guardians of the Galaxy<\/em>, The Infiltrator<\/em>), Kei Rowan-Young<\/strong> (Django Unchained<\/em>, Chef<\/em>), and Steve Woroniecki<\/strong> (Tomorrowland<\/em>, X-Men: First Class<\/em>).
\n5:30 p.m.:\u00a0<\/u><\/strong> Fright Night: 30 Years of Screams (Room 6A):<\/u><\/strong> Horror screenwriter Greg Beville<\/strong> (Blackstar Canyon<\/em>) details the special effects and making of Fright Night<\/em> 1985 and how the film’s practical effects compare to horror films today. Moderated by Now Streaming’s Andrew Furtado<\/strong> (Nightbreed: The Director’s Cut<\/em>).
\n6 p.m.:\u00a0<\/u><\/strong> NASA: Journey to Mars (Room 6BCF):<\/u><\/strong> America’s space agency is leading the world on a journey to the Red Planet. From the current orbiters and rovers that are making historic scientific discoveries, to the development of the largest and most powerful rocket ever conceived by human, NASA is pushing the final frontier to the planet that has been the subject of conjecture and the focus of the search for life beyond our home planet. We plan an enlightening discussion moderated by Aditya Sood<\/strong> (executive producer, The Martian<\/em>). Also some of NASA’s best and brightest; Jim Green <\/strong>(director of planetary sciences, NASA Headquarters), Todd May <\/strong>(manager, NASA Space Launch System Program, NASA Marshall Space Flight Center) and Victor Glover<\/strong> (astronaut, NASA Johnson Space Center). (Hall H):<\/u><\/strong> Starchild, Demon, Catman and Spaceman join everyone\u2019s favorite teen sleuths in an explosive, new, must-see musical adventure no KISS Army member will want to miss! In Scooby-Doo! And KISS: Rock and Roll Mystery<\/em>, the Mystery Inc. gang travels to KISS World, an amusement park dedicated to the band, for a special Halloween concert headlined by the legendary rock group. Six KISS songs are featured alongside an original new song performed by the band written just for the film. McLean<\/strong>, and The Asylum producers join the panel conversation.
\n7:30 p.m.:\u00a0<\/u><\/strong> Robotech: The Next 30 Years (Room 24ABC):<\/u><\/strong> Kevin McKeever<\/strong> (VP of marketing at Harmony Gold) showcases all the latest merchandise, along with the latest updates on the live-action Robotech<\/em> film.
\n8 p.m.:\u00a0<\/u><\/strong> Son of Name That Movie (Room 9):<\/u><\/strong> Returning for a third record-breaking year is the combination game show and visual\/audio event known as Son of Name That Movie. Inkpot Award-winning host and creator John Field<\/strong> presents the fu- filled program shown to a packed house of film fans the last two years running. In this all-new version, 50 clips from 50 different sci-fi, horror, and fantasy films are presented. Place your ticket in the Magic Film Can. If picked from among audience members, you get to play the game by simply naming as many of the clips as possible. There will be first- through fourth-place prizes. \n8 p.m.:\u00a0<\/u><\/strong> 18th Annual Superhero Kung Fu Extravaganza (Room 6A):<\/u><\/strong> Ric Meyers<\/strong> (Inside Kung Fu<\/em>, Films of Fury: The Kung Fu Movie Movie<\/em> [& Book<\/em>]) has got a whole new bunch of eye-bulging, jaw-dropping, breath-taking, goose-bumping, funny-bone-cracking fight scenes from the best, worst, and weirdest films in the whole world. With his co-hosts Graham Eldwood<\/strong> and Chris J. Mancini<\/strong> (Comedy Film Nerds<\/em>, Ear Buds<\/em>) back in action; a report direct from Beijing by the king of YouTube kung-fu Eric Jacobus<\/strong> (as well as the Comic-Con premiere of his amazing new Rope-A-Dope 2<\/em>); and their standard operating surprises, it’s not just awe-some, it’s awe-all. Expect more to be announced about this year’s new entry into the film series, Star Wars: Episode VII: The Force Awakens<\/strong>. Who know who will be there, and what, if any, footage we will be seeing. Stick around as the always-interesting Kevin Smith closes Hall H by promoting his latest, Yoga Hosers<\/strong>. <\/em><\/p>\n

Since the success of X-Men<\/em> in the summer of 2000, filmgoers and comic fans have enjoyed an unprecedented number of comic book film adaptations. Drawing on the first book-length study of this frenzied period of production, The Comic Book Film Adaptation: Exploring Modern Hollywood’s Leading Genre<\/em> by Liam Burke<\/strong> (Swinburne University of Technology), this panel uncovers why, after more than a century of coexistence, comics and cinema have recently become so entwined. After considering the cause, the panel will then examine the effect of this trend. Topics will include how the language of comics has influenced the aesthetics of mainstream cinema, and the ways in which comic book fans, empowered by the web, facilitated the emergence of more faithful adaptations. \nA disgruntled group of God’s little helpers are fed up with doing the grunt work and steal the map of all the time holes in the universe. Their goal is to rob as many historical periods as they can and become bloody rich. Kevin is an imaginative young man with indifferent parents and a dull life until he discovers that one of the time holes is in his wardrobe and he gets swept up with the bandits as they run from God and Evil.
\n12:15pm \u2022 H. G. Wells’ The Time Machine: <\/strong>(1960, directed by George Pal, starring Rod Taylor. G)
\nA turn-of-the-century Englishman invents a time machine and travels into the distant future, making stops along the way. He witnesses the progress made by his society as well as its failures until he reaches a point so far into the future that humans have split into two different races. The Eloi are a primitive, peaceful, surface-dwelling race, while the Morlocks are an industrialized subterranean race who prey upon the Eloi. The inventor must face the Morlocks to regain his stolen time machine and return home to tell his tale of warning to his waiting dinner guests.

\nA typical high school teenager, Marty McFly, is transported 30 years back in time via a time traveling DeLorean and accidentally interrupts his own parents first meeting. He must now, with the help of the DeLorean’s creator Doc Brown, get his parents together or face never being born.

Ever since then, this picture show has thrived on midnight gatherings of people yelling back at the screen and acting out the scenes. This is the movie that really exemplifies the \u201ccult\u201d movie with its unique culture and traditions that continue to this day. Celebrate 40 years of sweet transvestites and gold speedo muscle men. Let\u2019s do the Time Warp again!<\/p>\n
