The key to a good sequel is not just repeating what people liked about the first film but expanding on those elements into a bigger and perhaps more epic story.<\/p>\n

Jurassic World<\/strong> director Colin Treverrow sounds like knows this as he recently talked to Wired UK<\/a> in which he discussed the possible story lines that he will explore as he works on the screenplay for the Jurassic World<\/strong> sequel.<\/p>\n

\u201c[It will not be] just a bunch of dinosaurs chasing people on an island,\u201d Trevorrow tells the outlet. \u201cThat\u2019ll get old real fast… I feel like the idea that this isn\u2019t always going to be limited to theme parks, and there are applications for this science that reach far beyond entertainment. And when you look back at nuclear power and how that started, the first instinct was to weaponise it and later on we found it could be used for energy. And this isn\u2019t something necessarily that was in the book but is a seed that I wanted to plant in this movie, is that might be able to grow in more of these movies if they decide to make more of them, is: What if this went open source? It\u2019s almost like InGen is Mac, but what if PC gets their hands on it? What if there are 15 different entities around the world who can make a dinosaur?\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd Dr Wu says in the film, when he\u2019s warning Dr Mesrani, \u2018We\u2019re not always going to be the only ones who can make a dinosaur\u2019. I think that\u2019s an interesting idea that even if we don\u2019t explore fully in this film, there is room for this universe to expand. I shouldn\u2019t use the word universe, because people will think we\u2019re making a Jurassic World universe \u2013 we\u2019re not.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Given that villains tend to end up as dino chow in the Jurassic Park<\/strong> films, it was an interesting surprise that BD Wong’s geneticist character Dr. Wu managed to make it off the island without such a fate. Trevorrow sounds as if this was something that they had in mind all along, so the dangling plotlines at the end of the film feel indicative of longer term franchise planning. Although he has previously stated that he has no interest in directing the Jurassic World<\/strong> sequel, he is set to work on the screenplay for the new film alongside co-writer Derek Connolly.<\/p>\n

Universal has already set<\/a> a June 22, 2018 release date for the as-yet-untitled Jurassic World<\/strong> sequel.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
