There’s a pair of conflicting rumors floating around right now over the fate of any direct sequel for 2013’s Man Of Steel<\/strong>. While the film has been used by Warner Brothers as the launching pad for their DC Comics Cinematic Universe, the studio’s announced schedule for further films has been suspiciously clear of any direct sequels to the Henry Cavill starring picture.<\/p>\n

According to one rumor, Mad Max<\/strong> director George Miller is being courted by the studio to direct a potential Man Of Steel 2<\/strong>. Miller would be taking over the directorial reigns from Zack Snyder, who will be busy helming the two-part Justice League<\/strong> films. Ironically, Miller had been tapped to direct a Justice League movie back in 2007 when budget concerns and a writers guild strike conspired to cancel the project.<\/p>\n

News of Miller’s negotiations come from John Schnepp, the director of the documentary The Death of Superman Lives<\/strong>, who made the claim on the Popcorn Talk video podcast<\/a>. As someone who undoubtedly made some contacts within Warner Brothers during the making of his film, I would be inclined to give credeance to what he states he has been told.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Den of Geek<\/a> is reporting that Man Of Steel 2 may actually be on a “permanent hold” with the studio. However, their two sources have confirmed to them that Warners has been talking with Miller, but that whatever project Miller takes “will depend on what story most interests him, his take on it, and everyone’s availability.”<\/p>\n

Personally, I think whatever project Miller decides to take on within Warners’ burgeoning shared universe would be exciting. As this summer’s Mad Max: Fury Road<\/strong> confirmed, Miller is a great director when it comes to action, delivering plenty of visual punch, while also maintaining the logistics of the sequence. He is also very strong when it comes to grounding his characters within all the spectacle. <\/p>\n

And as for the idea that a Man Of Steel 2<\/strong> film is on “permanent hold,” well, I would take that with a grain of salt. If Miller wants to make a Superman movie, then Warner Brothers may very well just let the directlr of one of the biggest films of the summer make a Superman movie.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
