It may have not won over too many critics (62% on Rotten Tomatoes<\/a>) or lit the domestic box office on fire ($80 million as per Box Office Mojo<\/a>), but the 2012 Tom Cruise action pic Jack Reacher<\/strong> managed to set the over seas box office on fire. But with a total foreign and domestic total pull of just north of $218 million, it is understandable that Paramount would want to get a sequel going. And that sequel just started production yesterday under the title of Jack Reacher: Never Go Back<\/strong> ahead of an October 21, 2016 release date.<\/p>\n

Here’s the press release from Paramount –<\/p>\n

Paramount Pictures and Skydance Media today announced that principal photography has commenced on \u201cJACK REACHER: NEVER GO BACK,\u201d starring Tom Cruise (the \u201cMISSION: IMPOSSIBLE\u201d franchise, \u201cEDGE OF TOMORROW\u201d) and directed by Edward Zwick (\u201cTHE LAST SAMURAI,\u201d \u201cBLOOD DIAMOND\u201d).<\/p>\n

Production will take place in New Orleans. The film is set for release on October 21, 2016.<\/p>\n

The new film, a sequel to 2012\u2019s \u201cJACK REACHER,\u201d is based on author Lee Child\u2019s 18th book in the bestselling Jack Reacher series, Never Go Back. The film is written by Richard Wenk (\u201cTHE EXPENDABLES 2,\u201d \u201cTHE EQUALIZER\u201d), Marshall Herskovitz (\u201cLOVE AND OTHER DRUGS,\u201d \u201cTHE LAST SAMURAI\u201d) & Zwick.<\/p>\n

Cruise is producing alongside Don Granger (\u201cMISSION: IMPOSSIBLE \u2013 ROGUE NATION,\u201d \u201cJACK REACHER\u201d), Skydance Media\u2019s David Ellison and Dana Goldberg (\u201cMISSION: IMPOSSIBLE \u2013 ROGUE NATION,\u201d \u201cGEOSTORM\u201d), and Christopher McQuarrie (“MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE \u2013 ROGUE NATION,\u201d \u201cVALKYRIE\u201d). The executive producers are Paula Wagner (\u201cWAR OF THE WORLDS,\u201d \u201cTHE OTHERS\u201d) and Herb Gains (\u201cTHE JUDGE,\u201d \u201cNON-STOP\u201d).<\/p>\n
