While Halloween seems to be the traditional time for zombie tales, and we’re getting two in the cinemas next weekend – Freaks Of Nature<\/strong> and Scouts Guide To The Zombie Apocalypse<\/strong> – as well as the return of The Walking Dead<\/em> on AMC. But the zombie movie I am actually looking forward to the most is Pride And Prejudice And Zombies<\/strong>, hitting theaters next February. The first attempt to adapt one of author Seth Grahame-Smith’s horror mashup novels, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter<\/strong>, did not turn out so well, but I think the idea of recasting historical or classic literature figures into a horror milieu is a fun one and hopefully writer\/director Burr Steers has better luck with this. <\/p>\n

Interestingly, in the newly released trailer below, it looks as if the film is treading into some thematic ground first trod on by Joss Whedon in the Buffy, The Vampire Slayer<\/em> television series, specifically, undermining and subverting the trope of allegedly helpless women in the face of attacking horror. The tone her seems a bit more straight-up horror without the sense of humor that Grahame-Smith’s novel had, but that could be a trick of the trailer’s editing.<\/p>\n
