For decades, Disney has pretty much had the market cornered in bringing fairy tales to the big screen. But 2012’s Snow White And The Huntsman<\/strong> challenged that dominance and managed to make over $400 million in the process. Naturally, the studio wants to see if they can widen the chink that they already put into Disney’s armor with next summer’s Snow White<\/strong> spinoff, The Huntsman Winter’s War<\/strong> and today, the studio released our first look at the upcoming film.<\/p>\n

First off all, Snow White<\/strong> stars Chris Hemsworth and Charlize Theron return to their roles of Eric The Huntsman and the evil Queen Ravenna respectively, being joined by Emily Blunt and Jessica Chastain. Theron and Chastain released posters of their respective characters on twitter today and the film’s official twitter account released all four a few moments later. You can see them, as well as larger versions of the poster, below. And while ice queens have long been a fairy tale trope, it is hard not get a bit of a Frozen<\/strong> vibe off of the picture of Emily Blunt as Freya the Ice Queen.<\/p>\n

As to how all of this will play, Universal has also released the following plot synopsis –<\/p>\n

The fantastical world of Snow White and the Huntsman<\/strong> expands to reveal how the fates of The Huntsman Eric and Queen Ravenna are deeply and dangerously intertwined. Chris Hemsworth and Oscar\u00ae winner Charlize Theron return to their roles in The Huntsman Winter\u2019s War<\/strong>, an epic action-adventure in which they are joined by Emily Blunt and Jessica Chastain, as well as director Cedric Nicolas-Troyan. Producer Joe Roth (Maleficent, Alice in Wonderland) once again leads the team in a breathtaking new tale nested in the legendary saga.<\/p>\n

Long before the evil Queen Ravenna (Theron) was thought vanquished by Snow White\u2019s blade, she watched silently as her sister, Freya (Blunt), suffered a heartbreaking betrayal and fled their kingdom. With Freya\u2019s ability to freeze any enemy, the young ice queen has spent decades in a remote wintry palace raising a legion of deadly huntsmen\u2014including Eric (Hemsworth) and warrior Sara (Chastain)\u2014only to find that her prized two defied her one demand: Forever harden your hearts to love<\/p>\n

When Freya learns of her sister\u2019s demise, she summons her remaining soldiers to bring the Magic Mirror home to the only sorceress left who can harness its power. But once she discovers Ravenna can be resurrected from its golden depths, the wicked sisters threaten this enchanted land with twice the darkest force it\u2019s ever seen. Now, their amassing army shall prove undefeatable… unless the banished huntsmen who broke their queen\u2019s cardinal rule can fight their way back to one another.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

As promised in Theron’s tweet, we’ll get to see how all of this looks in action when the film’s first trailer debut’s on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

The Huntsman Winter’s War<\/strong> is scheduled for theaters on April 22, 2016.<\/p>\n
