An adaption of Patricia Highsmith’s novel The Price of Salt, Carol tells the story of two women (Rooney Mara and Cate Blanchett) in 1950s Manhattan who find escape from their conventional lives in a relationship.

Director Cary Fukunaga’s disturbing tale of child soldiers in a war-torn, unnamed African country, Beasts Of No Nation, earned five nominations.
