And now, here’s one from the Gee, You Don’t Say Department.<\/p>\n

Marvel Studios has announced that production on their latest comic book adaption, Doctor Strange<\/strong>, has commenced. The press release sent out today comes just a mere two weeks after the internet was hit with pictures<\/a> of star Benedict Cumberbatch<\/a> on location in Tibet<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The release confirms pretty much the cast we’re expecting for the film – Chiwetel Ejiofor, Rachel McAdams, Michael Stuhlbarg, Mads Mikkelsen and Tilda Swinton – but doesn’t offer up the roles that any of them are playing. We know that Ejiofor is slated to appear as Doctor Strange’s enemy Baron Mordo, Swinton is going to be playing Strange’s mentor The Ancient One and Stuhlberg will be playing Nicodemus West, a medical colleague of Strange’s. But the jury is still out as to the exact nature of McAdams and Mikkelson’s roles, though most rumors favor McAdams as Strange’s protege Clea and Mikkelsen as a second villain, possibly the inter-dimensional tyrant Dormmamu.<\/p>\n

The plot description in the press release is also scarce on details, none of which would be unknown to even casual fans of the mystical comic book hero.<\/p>\n

Doctor Strange<\/strong> is set to open in theaters in just a little under a year’s time on November 4, 2016.<\/p>\n

(November 24, 2015)\u2014Marvel Studios announced today that production has begun on \u201cDoctor Strange,\u201d starring Benedict Cumberbatch (\u201cBlack Mass,\u201d \u201cThe Imitation Game\u201d), Chiwetel Ejiofor (\u201c12 Years a Slave,\u201d \u201cThe Martian\u201d), Rachel McAdams (\u201cSouthpaw,\u201d \u201cSherlock Holmes\u201d) and Michael Stuhlbarg (\u201cSteve Jobs,\u201d \u201cA Serious Man\u201d) with Mads Mikkelsen (\u201cClash of the Titans,\u201d \u201cCasino Royale\u201d) and Academy Award\u00ae winner Tilda Swinton (\u201cMichael Clayton,\u201d \u201cThe Grand Budapest Hotel\u201d). The film, which opens in U.S. theaters on November 4, 2016, is directed by Scott Derrickson (\u201cSinister,\u201d \u201cThe Exorcism of Emily Rose\u201d). The film will be shot in several locations around the world, including London, New York, Hong Kong and Kathmandu, Nepal.<\/p>\n

\u201cDoctor Strange\u201d follows the story of neurosurgeon Doctor Stephen Strange who, after a horrific car accident, discovers the hidden world of magic and alternate dimensions.<\/p>\n

\u201cDoctor Strange\u201d is the latest film in Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Phase 3\u2019s goal\u2014over the course of four years and nine films\u2014is to introduce audiences to new heroes and continue the adventures of fan favorites.<\/p>\n

Marvel\u2019s \u201cDoctor Strange\u201d is produced by Kevin Feige with Louis D\u2019Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Charles Newirth, Stephen Broussard and Stan Lee serving as executive producers.<\/p>\n

Director Scott Derrickson\u2019s creative team also includes director of photography Ben Davis, B.S.C.
