As Marvel moves into development on the sequel to this past summer’s hit superhero film Ant-Man<\/strong>, Ant-Man And The Wasp<\/strong>, we’re starting to get an idea as to the division of labor as it pertains to the screenplay.<\/p>\n

Deadline<\/a> is reporting that Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari are coming on board to help Adam McKay and the film’s star Paul Rudd hash out the storyline for the follow up before heading off with Rudd to flesh that outline out into a full screenplay.<\/p>\n

Their hiring marks a reunion of a majority of the writing staff from the first film. Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish originally developed the Ant-Man project over several years for Marvel, before leaving over creative differences shortly before it was to go in front of cameras. Rudd and McKay worked on the screenplay before production began and then Barrer and Ferrari continued to polish things while the film was shooting.<\/p>\n

This news confirms the previously reported possibility<\/a> that McKay was going to participate in the writing of Ant-Man And The Wasp<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Barrer and Ferrari first gained notice when their unproduced screenplay Die In A Gunfight<\/strong> made it onto 2010’s Black List. More recently, they participated in the writers room that Paramount held for their upcoming Transformers<\/strong> films and are expected to be writing an animated prequel for that franchise.<\/p>\n

It should be interesting to see what plot the group will concoct for the follow-up. Unlike many of his cinematic superhero contemporaries, Ant-Man doesn’t have any iconic storylines for them to pluck elements from the way that such comics stories like “Demon In A Bottle” or “The Winter Soldier” were used for Iron Man 2<\/strong> and Captain America: The Winter Soldier<\/strong>. Will it be another caper film as the first one was or will the writing crew move the hero’s adventures towards a new genre?<\/p>\n
