\"Mad-Max\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Mad Max: Fury Road<\/strong> was named Best Picture of the Year, by the Online Film Critics Society in their annual “Best Of” list released last evening. It was one of four awards that the film received including Best director for George Miller.<\/p>\n

The drama Carol<\/strong> took three awards including Best Actress for Cate Blanchett, Best Supporting for Rooney Mara and Best Adapted Screenplay. Other films that are making a habit of showing up on these lists who appear here include Spotlight<\/strong>, Steve Jobs, Pixar’s animated Inside Out<\/strong> and the documentary The Look Of Silence<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Fury Road<\/strong>‘s win doesn’t come as a complete surprise. the society’s membership, as presumably the Boston Online Film Critics Association who also named<\/a> Fury Road <\/strong>their best of the year, tends to skew younger, more towards the film’s core demographic. That is not to say that the online critics were dismissive of more non-genre fare, as the three awards for Carol<\/strong> clearly shows. It just suggests that the younger groups may be more willing to consider genre films versus some of their stodgier counterparts.<\/p>\n
