George Miller’s post-apocalyptic action film Mad Max: Fury Road<\/strong> continues to dominate across the pre-Oscars Awards and “Best Of the Year” Lists season. <\/p>\n

This morning Fury Road<\/strong> claimed 13 nominations for the annual Critics’ Choice Awards including Best Picture, Best Director for Miller and Best Actress for Charlize Theron. Since the Awards, nominated and voted on in tandem by the The Broadcast Film Critics Association and Broadcast Television Journalists Association, also contains separate categories for Best Action Movie and Best Science Fiction\/Horror Movie, Fury Road<\/strong> was able to nab nominations in those genre specific areas as well. Theron doubled up her general Best Actress nomination with a second nomination in the Best Actress Action Movie category. Fury Road<\/strong> star Tom Hardy received a nomination for best actor in an action movie.<\/p>\n

Carol<\/strong>, The Martian<\/strong> and The Revenant<\/strong> followed Fury Road<\/strong> with eight nominations each, including Best Picture for each film. The other best picture nominees included The Big Short<\/strong>, Bridge of Spies<\/strong>, Brooklyn<\/strong>, Room<\/strong>, Sicario<\/strong> and Spotlight<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The separate genre categories helped Jennifer Lewis earned three Best Actress nominations in the general category and the comedy subcategory for the David O Russell film Joy<\/strong> and in the action movie subcategory for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay \u2013 Part 2<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

It should be noted that the Critics Choice Awards film categories have been a fairly reliable predictor of who will land Academy Award nominations. Over the last ten years, the Critics Choice nominees have matched the inevitably announced Oscar nominations approximately 70% of the time, as opposed to the Golden Globes’s Oscar accuracy that ranges around 40%.<\/p>\n

The Critics Choice Awards will be handed on out January 17 and will be broadcast live by A&E, Lifetime and LMN.<\/p>\n
