The planned reboot of the Charlie’s Angels<\/strong> franchise has secured a screenwriter in the form of Hercules<\/strong> scripter Evan Spiliotopoulos.<\/p>\n

Elizabeth Banks has made the reboot of the popular franchise about three female private detectives who work for a mysterious, unseen employer her sophomore directorial project, following her debut behind the camera with this year’s Pitch Perfect 2<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In addition to this year’s Hercules, which starred Dwayne Johnson, Spiliotopoulos has also scripted next spring’s The Huntsman: Winter\u2019s War<\/strong>, which stars Chris Hemsworth, Jessica Chastain, Charlize Theron and Emily Blunt and Disney\u2019s 2017 live-action Beauty And The Beast<\/strong> starring Emma Watson and Ewan McGregor.<\/p>\n

There’s no word yet on what sort of tone that the film will take. Pitch Perfect 2<\/strong> was a comedy and Hercules was a more straight forward fantasy adventure. Could Banks be looking to stretch her directorial muscles in a more action-oriented direction or does Spiliotopoulos want to write something that will be more light-hearted in tone?<\/p>\n

Charlie’s Angels came to life as a TV series in 1976 and which ran for five seasons. Never popular critics, it was a ratings hit and still fondly remembered when director McG decided to bring it to the bring screen in 2000 with Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz and Lucy Liu in the titular roles. A sequel, Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle<\/strong>, followed in 2003. A 2011 attempt to bring the show back to its television roots only lasted seven episodes.<\/p>\n
