George Clooney looks to be in some serious trouble in Money Monster<\/strong> as we can see below from the first trailer released for the upcoming thriller.<\/p>\n

The studio describes the movie with this plot outline –<\/p>\n

In the taut and tense thriller Money Monster, Lee Gates (George Clooney) is a bombastic TV personality whose popular financial network show has made him the money wiz of Wall Street. But after he hawks a high tech stock that mysteriously crashes, an irate investor (Jack O’Connell) takes Gates, his crew, and his ace producer Patty Fenn (Julia Roberts) hostage live on air. Unfolding in real time, Gates and Fenn must find a way to keep themselves alive while simultaneously uncovering the truth behind a tangle of big money lies.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Granted, the description does sound a bit like some other frustrated guy-on-the-edge-taking-hostages story like the 1990s John Travolta movie Mad City<\/strong> or the Denzel Washington actioner Citizen Q, but this does have a number of things going for it, chief among them being Jody Foster behind the camera. She doesn’t direct often and when she does it is almost always a treat. Then there’s the fact that we are getting to see Clooney and Roberts together on screen again, which is always a treat. But I think the most interesting thing about the film is that it will be unfolding in real time. It is a technique that is not often used, but one that is great for helping to create a feeling of tension.<\/p>\n

The screenplay, by Jamie Linden, Alan DiFiore and Jim Kouf was the object of a small bidding war in 2014, with Tri-Star coming out on top.<\/p>\n

Money Monster<\/strong> hits theaters on May 13.<\/p>\n
