The Revenant<\/strong>, the Leonardo DiCaprio-starring tale of survival and revenge, is leading the pack as the Motion Picture Academy of Arts and Sciences has announced their nominees for the 88th annual Academy Awards.<\/p>\n

The Revenant<\/strong> led the nominations with a total of 12, including nods in the Best Picture, Best Director for Alejandro Inarritu, Best Actor for DiCaprio and Best Supporting Actor for Tom Hardy. George Miller’s return to his post-apocalyptic action series, Mad Max: Fury Road<\/strong>, scored a total of 10 nominations including Best Picturea nd Director, while Ridley Scott’s science-fiction thriller The Martian<\/strong> earned seven nominations including Best Picture and Lead Actor (Matt Damon).<\/p>\n

Although a critical favorite and a box office monster, Star Wars: The Force Awakens<\/strong> only garnered four Academy Award nominations – One for John Williams’ score and another three in the technical categories for Best Visual Effects, Sound Editing and Sound Mixing.<\/p>\n
