Marvel Comics is taking their first step into the most recent era of the Star Wars<\/strong> universe this April with the release of their new Star Wars: Poe Dameron<\/em> ongoing series. Set in the time just before the current The Force Awakens<\/strong>, the comic will focus on the hotshot X-wing pilot played by Oscar Isaac.<\/p>\n

The new series will be written by Charles Soule with art from Phil Noto. Both are recent veterans of Marvel’s various Star Wars comics. Soule penned the Star Wars: Lando<\/em> miniseries, which centered on the roguish Lando Calrissian whom we first met in The Empire Strikes Back<\/strong>. Noto undertook the art chores for the recently wrapped Star Wars: Chewbacca<\/em> five-issue miniseries.<\/p>\n

According to USA Today<\/a>, the series will focus “on the lead-up to the opening scene of The Force Awakens<\/strong>, which saw Poe seeking out mysterious traveler Lor San Tekka (Max von Sydow) on the planet Jakku for a key to finding the missing Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill).”<\/p>\n

The series marks the first comic series to be set around the time of the new trilogy of Star Wars films that was kicked off last month with The Force Awakens<\/strong>. All of the previous series have been set around the time of the original Star Wars<\/strong> trilogy with the exception of the Star Wars: Kanan<\/em> ongoing and the just started Star Wars: Obi-Wan & Anakin<\/em> miniseries, which are both set during the prequel trilogy’s Clone Wars conflict.
