Any comic book fan knows how important Wonder Woman’s mom, Hippolyta, is to her origin and characterization. The mother\/daughter dynamic, and all that entails, has been a defining characteristic of every incarnation of Wonder Woman. So it is logical that Hippolyta, Queen of the Amazons would be part of the Wonder Woman <\/strong>film. Now we know who will play her.<\/p>\n

The Hollywood Reporter<\/a> broke the story that Danish actress Connie Nielsen has been cast in Wonder Woman <\/strong>as Hippolyta. She joins Gal Gadot, Chris Pine,Robin Wright, Danny Huston, David Thewlis, and Ewen Bremner.<\/p>\n

This will not be the first time Nielsen played a woman of power whose wardrobe consisted of togas and sandals. She is best remember in the U.S. for her role as Lucilla, sister of Joaquin Phoenix’s Commodus in 2000’s Gladiator<\/strong>. She has also had recurring roles in American TV shows such as\u00a0The Good Wife<\/em>, The Following<\/em> and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Niesen is a competent actress, but a certain section of Wonder Woman fandom has to be disappointed. There was a calling in the fan community that TV’s Wonder Woman Lynda Carter be cast in the role.<\/p>\n
