If you thought all that movement on the 2017 release schedule yesterday was over, guess again.<\/p>\n

Universal has just announced that their planned The Mummy<\/strong> film is being pushed back from its previously announced March 24, 2017 to June 9, 2017.<\/p>\n

The film is set to star Tom Cruise<\/a> and Sofia Boutella<\/a>, with Boutella in the titular role. Alex Kurtzman will be directing<\/a> from a screenplay by Jon Spaihts.<\/p>\n

The move puts The Mummy up against the opening of World War Z 2<\/strong>, the sequel to the 2013 zombie apocalypse spectacle and the final chapter of the Divergent Series YA novel adaptations, Ascendant<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The Mummy is set to be the first film in a cinematic universe that will be built from Universal Studios classic monster films of the 1930s and ’40s. Future planned installments will feature The Wolf Man, Frankenstein’s Monster, the Bride of Frankenstein, the Creature from the Black Lagoon and more.<\/p>\n

It is hard to tell if the move is just to give the production a but more breathing room or if they know that they have a specific problem they are working on fixing before shooting starts. But as a studio with not many tentpole franchises to its name, Universal is certainly banking on this film being a success.
