McG is in talks with Sony Pictures to direct their in-development Masters Of The Universe<\/strong> live action film. The movie will be based on the 1980s Hasbro toy line which has over the years spawned numerous cartoon and comic book series, as well as a previous, and not very good, live action film.<\/p>\n

Deadline<\/a> is reporting that McG would be overseeing a rewrite of the most recent draft that had been turned in by the writing team of Alex Litvak and Mike Finch. Last summer<\/a> it was reported that Thor: Ragnarok<\/strong> screenwriter Christopher Yost had been brought on board to work on the script. There is no mention of his name in Deadline’s report so either he never actually worked on the project or his script was flat out not what Sony was looking for.<\/p>\n

McG is the director behind the box office hit revival of Charlie’s Angels<\/strong> back in 2000 as well as 2009’s Terminator: Salvation<\/strong>, the first failed attempt to restart the Terminator<\/strong> franchise, and last year’s The Duff<\/strong>. None of these movies were very strong from a directorial standpoint in my opinion and I don’t think that there is nothing more than a journeyman’s level of ability that McG will bring to this project here.<\/p>\n

Don’t despair entirely, though, fans of the Masters Of The Universe<\/strong> franchise. In the past, the likes of John Woo, John Stevenson, Jon M Chu, Terry Rossio and Jeff Wadlow, Mike Finch and Alex Litvak, Justin Marks, Evan Daugherty, and Adam Rifkin have all worked on trying to get the franchise back up on the big screen. It is a project that has been in perpetual development for years first at Warner Brothers and now Sony. It remains to be seen if McG will be the head of the creative team to get this film in front of cameras.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
