Star Wars: The Force Awakens<\/strong> will be passing another box office milestone today, when the franchise relaunch will pass the $2 billion mark at the international box office. This milestone comes quickly on the heels of The Force Awakens<\/strong> passing the $900 million mark at the US box office, the first film to do so. The film grossed its first billion dollars<\/a> at box office just 12 days after its December 15th release.<\/p>\n

Now in its 50th day of domestic release, The Force Awakens<\/strong> is still number three on the all time box office chart behind the twin juggernauts of James Cameron\u2019s Avatar<\/strong> ($2.78 billion) and Titanic<\/strong> ($2.19 billion). Most forecasts don’t see the film taking the number one spot. By comparison at this point in their releases, Titanic<\/strong> had taken in $320 million domestically, while last summer\u2019s Jurassic World<\/strong> had $628.8 million at the same time period. Star Wars<\/strong> passed<\/a> Avatar<\/strong>‘s all-time US box office gross of $760.5 million on January 6.<\/p>\n

This is just the latest in a long string of broken box office records that The Force Awakens<\/strong> leaves in its wake including biggest opening weekend ($248 million), biggest opening day ($119.1 million), biggest second weekend ($149.2 million), biggest third weekend ($90.2 million) and biggest opening week ($390.8 million). Internationally, The Force Awakens<\/strong> has taken the crown for biggest worldwide debut ($529 million), fastest film to hit $1 billion globally (12 days) and biggest IMAX global debut ($48 million). The film also is now the titleholder for biggest opening weekend in the UK, Australia, Russia, Germany, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Austria, Poland, Denmark, Romania, Hungary, Bulgaria, Croatia, Ukraine, Iceland, Serbia and New Zealand.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
