Johnny Depp has been cast in Universal Studios’ The Invisible Man<\/strong>, according to a report from Deadline<\/a>. The film is set to be part of the studios’ plans for an interconnected cinematic universe utilizing all of their classic monster characters. Deadline had no details as to who was working on the screenplay for the film, but the overall franchise effort is being spearheaded by Alex Kurtzman and Chris Morgan.<\/p>\n

Depp’s casting marks the second big box office name that the studio has landed for their monsters franchise, following Tom Cruise signing on to their Mummy<\/strong> film. It certainly has cemented the project as one of the ones to keep a close eye on as it continues to develop.<\/p>\n

Currently, The Mummy<\/strong> is set for a June 9, 2017 release. It is possible that the studio is eyeing their previously staked out weekend of April 20, 2018 for The Invisible Man<\/strong>. Previous reports have stated that the franchise’s redo of The Wolf Man<\/strong> would possibly debut in that spot, though there has been no official confirmation. The studio’s announced plan is to release one of these films a year, but with their being no casting news on any of the other films in development like The Wolf Man<\/strong>, Creature From The Black Lagoon<\/strong> and Bride Of Frankenstein<\/strong>, it looks as if The Invisible Man<\/strong> might be sliding into that date.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
