In a world where nearly all tentpole franchises are based on pre-existing properties, Guillermo Del Toro’s Pacific Rim<\/strong> was a bit of an anomaly. While it drew inspiration from numerous giant monster and giant robot comic book, animated and film series, it was uniquely its own thing. So it was a bit disappointing when it looked like the planned sequel to the 2013 film was not going to materialize. Well, that disappointment goes away today as news comes that Pacific Rim 2<\/strong> is moving out of development hell with a new director in the form of Steven S. DeKnight.<\/p>\n

Deadline<\/a> is reporting that DeKnight will be making his feature film debut with the project, working from the screenplay written by Jon Spaihts when Del Toro was developing the project.<\/p>\n

Del Toro himself expressed approval over the choice last night on twitter.<\/p>\n
