We know that the first Star Wars<\/strong> spinoff film, Rogue One<\/strong>, will be the first in a series showing us life and adventures away from the Skywalker clan. The first trailer for the film has just been released, offering us a glimpse at that world. <\/p>\n

Right away we can see that the film, which will feature a group of commandos lead by Felicity Jones on a raid to capture the Death Star plans, will at least be partly set at the hidden Rebel base on Yavin 4 which we first saw in the very first Star Wars<\/strong> film. And since this film is set right before the incidents of the very first film, this won’t be the only connection to the original trilogy we will see. There is also Mon Mothma, the Rebellion leader first glimpsed in Return Of The Jedi. Fun fact, Mon Mothma is being played by Genevieve O’Reilly, stepping in for Caroline Blakiston, who played the role in Jedi<\/strong>. O’Reilly first played the character back in the prequel trilogy’s concluding chapter Rise Of The Sith<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The trailer also shows that at least in the case of Jones’s character Jyn Erso, the makeup of this group of Rebels tasked with infiltrating the Death Star as leaning more towards a Dirty Dozen<\/em>-style band of motley misfits.<\/p>\n

There’s more to the trailer, including indications that the first music composed for a Star Wars<\/strong> film not by John Williams will not stray far from the template he laid down, the construction of the Death Star and the epic scope that director Gareth Edwards is bringing to the film.
