Kevin Smith is gearing up to appeal the rating for for his upcoming film Yoga Hosers<\/strong>, feeling that the R-rating imposed by the Motion Picture Association of America’s ratings board was too harsh for the movie he made.<\/p>\n

This is not Smith’s first time at this particular rodeo. He appealed the NC-17 rating his very first film, Clerks<\/strong>, received simply for its language. He also appealed the NC-17 rating the board tried to give his comedy Zack And Miri Make A Porno<\/strong> and the R rating the MPAA wanted to bestow on his fatherhood dramedy Jersey Girl<\/strong>. In each case he was successful, getting Clerks<\/strong> and Zack And Miri<\/strong> knocked down to an R rating and Jersey Girl<\/strong> to a PG-13.<\/p>\n

In this case, Smith states that he made the film for tween girls, a demographic that would have a hard time getting into an R-rated film on their own. In the Facebook post below, he specifically spells out how he went out of his way to keep things in the PG-13 range, but there was one small moment that tipped to film in R rating territory for the MPAA.<\/p>\n

I have to admit that I find it unusual that Smith’s intended audience for Yoga Hosers<\/strong> is younger girls. His comedies generally are geared more towards older males. Also, he had previously stated that Yoga Hosers was the middle installment of a trilogy of linked films set in Canada, the first of which, Tusk<\/strong>, was rated R.<\/p>\n

Yoga Hosers<\/strong> stars Harley Quinn Smith, Lily-Rose Melody Depp, Haley Joel Osmet, Johnny Depp and Justin Long. No release date has been announced.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
