We may still be a little more than two weeks out from its release, but powered by some very positive early reviews, Captain America: Civil War<\/strong> is tracking to make somewhere in the neighborhood of $175 million its opening weekend.<\/p>\n

The film is the third of Marvel Studios’ Captain American<\/strong> films and the 13th film in their overall interconnected cinematic universe.<\/p>\n

If the Marvel film manages to make this estimate it will pass the $170.1 million Warner Brothers’ own superhero slugfest Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice<\/strong> pulled in its opening weekend. If it does, Civil War<\/strong> will snatch the highest grossing opening weekend for 2016 crown from Batman V Superman<\/strong>. Additionally, if Civil War<\/strong> reaches it projections, it would enter into the Top 5 Biggest Opening Weekends of all time. The current top four opening films on American shores are Star Wars: The Force Awakens<\/strong> ($248 million), Jurassic World<\/strong> ($208.8 million), The Avengers<\/strong> ($207.4 million) and Avengers: Age Of Ultron<\/strong> ($191.3 million).<\/p>\n

The Hollywood Reporter<\/a> is stating that with the strong advance critical reaction as well as high anticipation factor from the film adapting a popular Marvel Comics storyline and the first Marvel Cinematic Universe appearance of Tom Holland as Spider-Man, the $175 million estimate may be a conservative one and that the weekend take could be as high as $200 million.<\/p>\n

With production and marketing budgets of approximately the same amount, Captain America: Civil War<\/strong> will also need to gross in the neighborhood of $800 million that Batman V Superman needed to break even. Given that Civil War<\/strong> doesn’t have too much competition at theaters over the following two weeks in terms of new releases.
