The actress has signed on to play heroine Lara Croft for MGM’s reboot of their Tomb Raider video game big screen adaptation franchise.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the film will present Lara Crodt’s origins, as it tells “the story of a young and untested Croft fighting to survive her first adventure.” The Wave director Roar Uthaug has already been signed to direct the film.

Vikander pretty much exploded on the movie scene last year with great performances in Ex Machina, Burnt and even the otherwise lackluster The Man From U.N.C.L.E., while her turn in The Danish Girl secured her the Best Supporting Actress award at this year’s Oscars. This year we will be seeing her in the drama The Light Between Oceans and alongside Matt Damon in Jason Bourne.

Previously, Angelina Jolie was the big screen incarnation of the adventuring, tomb raiding Lara Croft in 2001’s Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and 2003’s Lara Croft: Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life. Although they made money, they weren’t well received critically.

The Hollywood Reporter’s story does not list a release date for the film, nor does it state if there is a director signed on to the project yet, so it may be some time before we see the resultant film.

The Oscar-winning actress will be taking on the role of the iconic video game heroine.

[click for more]

[84
7795,3714

0":"post-38414","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","6":"category-news","7":"tag-alicia-vikander","8":"tag-tomb-raider
[2
["GET
