Recently there have been whispers that a possible sequel to Tim Burton’s classic 1988 dark comedy Beetlejuice<\/strong> was in the works. Stars Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder certainly talked as if it was a sure thing over the past year or so. But one never knows in Hollywood, does one? Numerous projects have been started with great ideas and intentions to never get beyond that phase.<\/p>\n

Collider’s Steve Weintraub brought up the subject of a potential Beetlejuice 2<\/strong> with Burton while the director was doing press for his upcoming film Miss Peregrine\u2019s Home For Peculiar Children<\/strong> and got this response<\/a> –<\/p>\n

This is the thing, it\u2019s something that I\u2019m interested in, but there\u2019s so many stories [online], dumping Michael Keaton for Johnny Depp and this or that, and I\u2019ve talked to these people and they didn\u2019t wanna hear this so they just made up a story. But the fact of it is I have talked to Michael and I have talked to Winona, I\u2019ve talked to a few people. It\u2019s something that I really would like to do in the right circumstances, but it\u2019s one of those films where it has to be right. It\u2019s not a kind of a movie that cries out [for a sequel], it\u2019s not the Beetlejuice trilogy. So it\u2019s something that if the elements are right\u2014because I do love the character and Michael\u2019s amazing as that character, so yeah we\u2019ll see. But there\u2019s nothing concrete yet.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

So it sounds to me as if the desire is there, but we are not as close to the sequel being a sure thing as previously thought. Will the stars align for a Beetlejuice 2<\/strong> or will this just go the way of so many other projects that never got past the “Gee, wouldn’t it be nice if—” stage?
