Warner Brothers is looking to make a female-centric superhero film as part of their DC Comics Extended Universe franchise and have already attached Margot Robbie to reprise her upcoming Suicide Squad<\/strong> role of Harley Quinn.<\/p>\n

The Hollywood Reporter<\/a> is stating that the film would pull characters both heroes and villains from DC Comics vast catalog with names like Batgirl and the Birds of Prey being mentioned. Jena Malone had been cast in last spring’s Batman V Superman:Dawn Of Justice<\/strong> as Barbara Gordon, aka Batgirl, but her role was cut during editing. While it will be restored for the upcoming Extended Cut home video release, there is no word yet as to whether Malone will be part of this untitled project.<\/p>\n

Additional details are scarce, although the Hollywood Reporter says that the unknown writer of the project is female and that it all started with Robbie herself.<\/p>\n

[W]hen she got the part for the movie, she dove deep into the comics to learn as much as possible about the character. In the process, she fell for DC\u2019s female characters. She brought on the writer to help develop the project and brought it to Warners, which snapped it up.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The self-stylized girlfriend of Batman arch-nemesis The Joker, Harley Quinn is one of DC Comics more popular characters right now with a recent reinvention of the character having turned her into more of an antihero. Warners is obviously hoping that that popularity n the comic shop will translate over to popularity in theaters when she debuts as part of the team of supervillains recruited for a dangerous mission in November’s Suicide Squad<\/strong> film.<\/p>\n

Female-centric ensemble films look to be the latest trend in genre films. This summer we have Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters<\/strong> reboot hitting theaters while studios are working on lady led versions of The Expendables<\/strong> and Ocean’s Eleven<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
