Another nugget of knowledge about Universal’s planned Monsters Cinematic Universe was panned from an unusual source. Buried towards the bottom of a Deadline<\/a> story about Dwayne Johnson setting up the project Son of Shaolin<\/strong> at Sony is a throwaway mention that “there are persistent rumors Universal wants him howling at the moon when it gets around to the Wolf Man movie that is part of its classic monsters franchise revival plans.”<\/p>\n

Really? This is the first mention in the media that we know of. So there you go, Dwayne Johnson is in consideration to play the Wolf Man. Possibly.<\/p>\n

If Johnson is being sought for the role in Universal’s upcoming franchise, then it will be one more project on an already crowded schedule for the actor. Besides him now appearing in the Fast & Furious<\/strong> movies, where his character is being rumored to get spun off for his own films, he also has a potential pair of Journey To The Center Of The Earth<\/strong> sequels, a San Andreas<\/strong> sequel, Shane Black’s Doc Savage<\/strong> adaptation, the DC Comics Shazam<\/strong> adaptation and the remake of Jumanji<\/strong> on his schedule. And that’s just in the short term. He is also attached to numerous projects like a Big Trouble In Little China<\/strong> remake, the Robert Ludlum adaptation The Janson Directive<\/strong> and more.<\/p>\n

The studio has already been aiming high in terms of star power for this franchise. It has Tom Cruise in The Mummy, which will kick things off next summer. Angeline Jolie and Johnny Depp are also rumored to be sought after by the studio as well for their planned Bride Of Frankenstein<\/strong> and Invisible Man<\/strong> films. Since Universal has not even announced what films we’ll be seeing on their already staked out release dates of April 13, 2018 and February 15, 2019, we don’t even know how soon the studio wants to get started on The Wolf Man<\/strong>, but it might not be until a couple of years even.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
