{"id":39235,"date":"2016-09-09T13:56:03","date_gmt":"2016-09-09T17:56:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.filmbuffonline.com\/FBOLNewsreel\/wordpress\/?p=39235"},"modified":"2018-12-09T00:41:01","modified_gmt":"2018-12-09T05:41:01","slug":"jeff-nichols-signs-direct-alien-nation-remake","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.filmbuffonline.com\/FBOLNewsreel\/wordpress\/2016\/09\/09\/jeff-nichols-signs-direct-alien-nation-remake\/","title":{"rendered":"Jeff Nichols Signs To Write, Direct ALIEN NATION Remake"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-39236\" src=\"http:\/\/www.filmbuffonline.com\/FBOLNewsreel\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/Alien-Nation-Jeff-Nichols-678x382.jpg\" alt=\"alien-nation-jeff-nichols\" width=\"678\" height=\"382\" \/>The long in development <strong>Alien Nation <\/strong>remake has taken a big leap towards production as 20th Century Fox is negotiating with Jeff Nichols to write and direct the film.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/deadline.com\/2016\/09\/alien-nation-jeff-nichols-loving-science-fiction-remake-fox-1201815931\/\">Deadline<\/a> is reporting that the director of <strong>Mud<\/strong>, <strong>Take Shelter<\/strong>, <strong>Midnight Special<\/strong>\u00a0and the forthcoming <strong>Loving<\/strong> will be helming the remake of the 1988 sci-fi buddy cop movie about a racist cop partnered with an alien to investigate a series of murders in Los Angeles.<\/p>\n<p>If you are thinking that this project might be beneath a writer\/director of Nichols talents, then you probably have forgotten a lot about the original <strong>Alien Nation<\/strong>. While on the surface the film was a take on the buddy cop genre that was popular at the time, the film had layers that dealt with racism and xenophobia. The aliens, called &#8220;Newcomers,&#8221; were essentially refugees who entered the country illegally and tried to\u00a0assimilate into a society that\u00a0hated them.
