\"\"When Sony teamed with Marvel Studios to reboot Spider-Man <\/strong>for the second time, fans were clamoring for the new Spidey to be the Miles Morales version of the character. That didn’t happen, but those fans will get their wish as Miles makes to trek to the big screen in 2018.<\/p>\n

It was revealed today that the character will be the focus of the planned animated Spider-Man <\/strong>film that will be written by Phil Lord and Chris Miller and directed by Bob Persichetti and Peter Ramsey. The film will not tie directly into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.<\/p>\n

Miles Morales was co-created by Brian Michael Bendis and Sara Pichelli in the pages of 2011’s Ultimate Fallout<\/em> #4. He was part of Marvel’s alternate “Ultimate” timeline at the time, and took over the title of Spider-Man after that universe’s Peter Parker was killed in action. Morales is a black Latino who was bit by a spider as well and gained similar powers to\u00a0Parker. Through some cosmic mumbo-jumbo,\u00a0the character is now part of the mainstream\u00a0Marvel Universe.<\/p>\n

I think this is a great idea for Sony & Marvel. Not only does it give fans what they asked for, it also creates a Spider-Man <\/strong>film that will\u00a0feature a different, more ethnically diverse character. It also sets up an animated film that will serve as an alternative to Spider-Man: Homecoming <\/strong>and not one that will leech away that film’s audience.<\/p>\n

The as-yet-unnamed animated Spider-Man <\/strong>film will hit theaters on December 21, 2018.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
