Even before its release last summer, word was that Warner Brothers was already developing<\/a> a sequel to the supervillain team-up film Suicide Squad<\/strong>. And now, the studio has finally found its writer for the project in the form of The Legend Of Tarzan<\/strong> scripter Adam Cozad.<\/p>\n

The Hollywood Reporter<\/a> is saying that Cozad is currently in negotiations with the studio and the film is a priority for them. David Ayer, who wrote and directed the first film, will not be back for the sequel, leaving the studio to approach a number of directors, reportedly including Mel Gibson<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Suicide Squad<\/strong> featured a number of DC Comics bad guys being forced to work together as part of a covert government black ops team. It starred Will Smith, who played the assassin Deadshot, Jared Leto as the iconic Batman villain the Joker, Margot Robbie as the Joker’s girlfriend Harley Quinn and Viola Davis as the Squad’s government handler Amanda Waller.<\/p>\n

Robbie, whose Harley Quinn was a breakout character in Suicide Squad<\/strong>, also starred in Legend Of Tarzan<\/strong>. It is unclear if that connection helped Crozad land the gig, but with Robbie’s clout at the studio rising, it is not outside of the realm of possibility. Robbie currently has a Harley Quinn-centric spin-off, Gotham City Sirens<\/strong>, already in development with Ayers set to direct.<\/p>\n

But Crozad has plenty of other credits on his resume including co-writing 2014\u2019s Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit<\/strong>. He also has Underwater<\/strong>, an adventure movie in development at Fox with Kristen Stewart attached, Bloodshot<\/strong>, an adaptation of the Valiant comic book, and the Charlize Theron spy thriller The Gray Man<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
