He’s the creative mind behind the biggest pop culture phenomenon of the 21st Century, The Walking Dead. Together, they will be bringing on of the longest running Image titles, Invincible, to the big screen.

The Hollywood Reporter has the exclusive news that Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg will be adapting Robert Kirkman’s Invincible for Universal. The pair will write and direct the feature while joining Kirkman as producer.

Invincible is a deconstructive take on the teen hero concept. It deals with Mark Grayson, a teenage boy who develops superhuman powers. He soon finds out that he inherited them from his father, who is the alien superhero named Omni-Man. He decides to follow in his father’s footsteps and become a superhero, but soon finds out that his father isn’t exactly who he thought it was. The series never shied away from bloody violence and typically provided a unique take on the common tropes of the superhero genre. The film, if done right, will provide a similar deconstruction of the popular superhero film genre.

The series started in 2003 and is set to wrap up later this year, giving Rogen and Goldberg plenty of material to work with for this film and many potential sequels. Kirkman co-created the character with Cory Walker, who shared the art duties on the series 14-year run with Ryan Ottley.

For Kirkman, it allows him to put a lot of frequently asked questions to rest:

For nearly a decade I’ve had to endure the ‘what about Invincible?’ question as fans have watched The Walking Dead grow into the multi-media monstrosity it has become over the years. The answer was always that we were waiting for the right team to partner with. That team has arrived! The esteemed misters Goldberg and Rogen have proven themselves to be top-notch directors with a keen collective eye for stunning visuals after slumming it by writing hit after juggernaut hit.

Invincible‘s surprising, edgy, shocking, and oftentimes blood-soaked story couldn’t be in more capable hands. With the team of Rogen, Goldberg and Universal, I’m very confident this will be another superhero movie, in a long line of superhero movies that continues to prove that it’s a viable, thrilling genre that will keep people coming to the cinema for years to come.

For Rogen and Goldberg’s part, they seem willing to go the extra mile to make the film a success:

No matter how much damage it causes our bodies, minds, and our most intimate relationships with those we love, we will not rest until Invincible is as great a movie as it deserves to be.

More on this project as it develops.

The long-running INVINCIBLE will be heading to the big screen courtesy of the team that brought PREACHER to the small screen.

[click for more]

[106,84
643,8926,913,8928,519,8096,287

0":"post-40235","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-comicsandfilm","8":"category-news","9":"tag-evan-goldberg","10":"tag-invincible","11":"tag-preacher","12":"tag-robert-kirkman","13":"tag-seth-rogen","14":"tag-the-walking-dead","15":"tag-universal
[2,4
["GET
