If there is an annual sweepstakes for “Movie Most Likely To Get The Easily Offended Offended,” the comedy The Little Hours<\/strong> could be an early contender for the crown. But then again, when you have Alison Brie, Kate Mucucci and Aubrey Plaza starring as a trio of medieval nuns, Dave Franco as a young serf hiding from a rather vengeful lord and John C. Reilly and Fred Armisen as two Church officials you are probably not producing a movie that is a pious introspection on religious life. Sure, the redband trailer below says that the film is based on The Decameron<\/em>, a 14th century collection of novellas by Italian author Giovanni Boccaccio, though I am guessing that this is an adaption in the loosest terms possible.<\/p>\n

As the film rolls out over the coming summer, be prepared for the usual outcries from the usual sources. And don’t be surprised if some of those criticisms wind up in further promotional material like the Catholic Laegue’s Bill Donohue’s condemnation of the film from its premier at Sundance earlier this year. (I’m guessing that Donohue hasn’t actually seen the film, but still has an opinion. Ironically, trying to participate in a class discussion when one has obviously not done the assigned reading would get him a failing grade from the nuns of my Catholic High School.)<\/p>\n
