\"\"In what is certainly going to be the opening salvo in flurry of activity over the next few weeks, Variety<\/a> announced that Marvel Studios has hired husband and wife writer\/director team of Ryan Flack and Anna Boden to helm its upcoming\u00a0Captain Marvel<\/strong> film.<\/p>\n

Fleck and Boden broke on the national scene in 2006 with Half Nelson<\/strong>, which the pair co-wrote and Fleck directed. The\u00a0film\u00a0starred Ryan Gosling\u00a0as\u00a0a drug-addicted inner city teacher who develops a special friendship with one of his students. The role earned Gosling an Oscar nomination and helped jump start Gosling’s career as a serious actor.<\/p>\n

Boden joined Fleck as director for the rest of their collaborations, which include character driven films such as Sugar<\/strong> and It’s Kind of a Funny Story<\/strong>. Their latest film was the gambling-themed Mississippi Grind <\/strong>starring Ben Mendelsohn and Ryan Reynolds.<\/p>\n

Marvel was looking for a female director to take on the project, and other names in consideration were Niki\u00a0Caro (Whale Rider<\/strong>), Lesli\u00a0Linka\u00a0Glatter (Now and Then<\/strong>),\u00a0Lorene\u00a0Scafaria\u00a0(Seeking a Friend for the End of the World<\/strong>), Lucia Aniello (Rough Night<\/strong>),\u00a0Sam Taylor-Johnson (Fifty Shades of Grey<\/strong>), <\/em>Jennifer Kent (The\u00a0Babadook<\/strong>) and Jennifer\u00a0Yuh\u00a0(Kung\u00a0Fu\u00a0Panda 2<\/strong>).<\/p>\n

Boden and Fleck have co-written every film they directed, so one assumes they will be providing their own take Meg LeFauve and Nicole Perlman’s\u00a0script, although Variety states that Marvel was waiting for the script to get into good shape before signing a director.<\/p>\n

Captain Marvel <\/strong>is set to arrive in theaters on March 8, 2019.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
