The next Star Wars<\/strong> solo film will be focusing on Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi.<\/p>\n

The Hollywood Reporter is breaking the news that Lucasfilm is currently in early discussions with director Stephen Dalfry to direct the stand-alone film centering on the Jedi Knight who served as the mentor to hero Luke Skywalker. Daldry is an interesting choice. He has no real genre experience, but he does have three Best Director Academy Award nominations to his name – Billy Elliot<\/strong> (2001), The Hours<\/strong> (2003) and The Reader<\/strong> (2009).<\/p>\n

The Reporter is stating that talks are at \u201cthe earliest stages.\u201d<\/p>\n

This will be the third Star Wars<\/strong> film to feature a story outside the main Skywalker family saga. Last year saw the release of the first, Rogue One<\/strong>, and next may will see the second, the still untitled young Han Solo film.<\/p>\n

A Star Wars <\/strong>spinoff featuring Obi-Wan Kenobi has been in the mix of rumored possibilities for some time now. There has also been rumors of films that would focus on bounty hunter Boba Fett and Jedi Master Yoda. Previously, Lucasfilm was developing a Boba Fett-themed film with writer\/director Josh Trank, but that project was shelved when Trank was fired after the disastrous release of his Fantastic Four<\/strong> film in 2015.<\/p>\n

As of now, there is no writer attached to the project, so any speculation about what story the film will be telling would be strictly guesswork. There are three possible periods in the character\u2019s life that it could potentially explore \u2013 His early days training in the Jedi Order as a padawan of Qui-Gon Jinn before we meet these characters in the first prequel film, an adventure during the Clone Wars we saw depicted in Star Wars: Episodes II<\/strong> and III<\/strong> and his time in exile on Tatooine, watching over and protecting young Luke Skywalker.<\/p>\n

There is also no word with Ewan McGregor, who played Kenobi in the Star Wars<\/strong> prequel trilogy, would return, though he has stated interest to do so in the past.<\/p>\n
