Before the cult classic series The X-Files<\/em> returned to television in 2016, there was the possibility of the franchise making a return instead to its second home – the big screen. Rumors had floated that despite the lackluster response to 2008’s The X-Files: I Want to Believe<\/strong>, the FBI’s two main investigators into the paranormal, Mulder and Scully, could be in for another theatrical adventure. Today at the New York Comic Con, while talking to the peess, series creator Chris Carter confirmed that a third film was indeed a possibility and that it had been written.<\/p>\n

I had actually wrote a third X-Files movie just as an exercise, just to see how I felt about the shape of it. I haven’t had any serious conversations with 20th Century Fox about it. And i think right now they’re focused on the television series. Does that mean there wouldn’t be a third movie? No. There’s just nothing in the works.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Carter also goes on to explain that none of the material in that script has been repurposed for the revived series.<\/p>\n

It was never a script to be shot. I was exploring things with the characters in more of a big screen approach than a small screen approach.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Carter’s comments came before series star Gillian Anderson dropped the bombshell at the journalist roundtable that she felt lile the upcoming season 11 of the show, which will premiere early next year would be her last.<\/p>\n

Of course, a third X-Files<\/strong> film could indeed go forward, but would fans really want to see a movie without one half of the on-screen team that defines the franchise?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
