Gore Verbinski is slated to direct.<\/p>\n<p>This is not the first time that Kaplan has been in contention for an <strong>X-Men<\/strong> franchise film. Last year, the actress was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.filmbuffonline.com\/FBOLNewsreel\/wordpress\/2016\/10\/20\/deadpool-2-domino-shortlist-includes-winstead-miller-caplan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">reportedly on the shortlist<\/a> to play the superhero Domino in next year&#8217;s <strong>Deadpool 2<\/strong>. The part ultimately went to Zazie Beetz.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Gambit<\/strong> has had a rough road through development. Prior to Verbinski signing on to direct, both Rupert Wyatt and Doug Liman had taken cracks at getting the project in front of cameras.<\/p>\n<p>Fox has been amping up their output from their X-Men franchise.
