They feature Samuel L. Jackson as The Spirit&#8217;s nemesis, the criminal mastermind known only as The Octopus and the jewel thief and femme fatale Silken Floss, as embodied by Scarlett Johansson.<\/p>\n<p>Johansson is a great bit of casting because Miller is definitely going for a retro aesthetic with the film and Johansson&#8217;s features recall the look of the glamour queens of Hollywood&#8217;s Golden Age.<\/p>\n<p>While Jackson has yet to turn in a disappointing performance, I have to admit that I&#8217;m a bit perplexed by the picture. In the classic <em>Spirit<\/em> strip, The Octopus was never shown, except for his distinctively gloved hands. Thinking Miller would preserve this, I was impressed with Jackson&#8217;s casting and looking forward to him carrying the role through primarily a vocal performance.
